Abstract of the talk:
浪漫主义最初发端自文学，但是在音乐上面的发展，却要晚于文学。然而，浪漫“Romantic”这个词，起源于拉丁语系中的罗曼语。这个词的意思，其实是：“和现实不近相同的想象世界”。那么浪漫主义音乐在西方艺术史上占有重要的地位，也是人类艺术发展史上的重要篇章。在本次的讲座中，我将引领大家从浪漫主义音乐的起源开始，历经浪漫主义初期，中期以及晚期的作曲家们以及他们的重要作品，从音乐演奏者的角度，谈谈这段时期的音乐和趣事。
About Speaker:
Dr. Fanqin Meng currently works as an Assistant Professor of Music at UIC. She obtained her Doctor of Music and Arts degree at the University of Wisconsin Madison in 2016. She has performed as a soloist since 2005 when she attended Central Conservatory of Music and got her bachelor’s degree. Dr. Meng’s performances are outstanding and virtuosic. She has played personal recitals in both China and the USA. From 2015 to 2016, Meng worked with Professor Chen Yi (a famous composer who was elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences in 2005) on a dissertation and the first recording of her viola concerto, Xian shi, in North America.
