You are cordially invited to attend a workshop on HyFlex Teaching and the improvement of online and offline teaching, presented by Dr. Charlie REIS (XJTLU) on 12 November 2020. The workshop is jointly organized by the Division of Culture and Creativity (DCC) and the Division of Science and Technology (DST). HyFlex Teaching will cover and demonstrate the basics of HyFlex (teaching online and on-site simultaneously). Topics covered will include: the origins of HyFlex teaching; principles of HyFlex design and the situation of UIC students; benefits and challenges of the approach; pedagogical considerations, such as chunking content and pairing chunks with student-centred activities; how webinar delivery is the baseline for HyFlex pedagogies; strategies for HyFlex delivery and online learning and teaching, with a particular focus on frameworks for student engagement in online contexts and practical strategies to promote engagement; models of interaction in HyFlex environments; the use of video conferencing tools to enhance learning and teaching; as well as the uncanny initiation into interacting with a remote and live audience at the same time. Questions and interactions are welcome.
Short Bio of the guest speaker:
Charlie Reis is Director of Educational Development at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), director of XJTLU’s PGCert programme, and the founder of the China-based Association for Partnership in Educational Development (CAPED). His primary area of research is the incorporation of classical Chinese knowledge into contemporary learning and teaching. Other areas of focus are transnational education, motivation and engagement, online and hybrid learning, academic identity, leadership, and science fiction. Outside of education, his interests were travel and (still) his cat.
