UIC 2008 Summer Programme Kicked Off At HKBU

The 29-day "UIC 2008 Summer Programme At HKBU" was given an official kickoff at a welcoming dinner on 3 July 2007 on the HKBU campus.  Altogether 327 first , second and third year students from Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College ("UIC") were enrolled in one or two of thirteen courses offered by HKBU departments. They were Principles of Accounting I (two classes), Principles of Law, IT Portfolio, Television and Hong Kong Society, Television Studio Production, Mathematics for Business, Banking and Credit, Chinese News Writing & Reporting, Organisational Behavior, The World of Business, Critical Thinking, Invitation to Sociology, and Social Work in Contemporary Society. 

"On behalf of HKBU, I am very happy to give my warmest welcome to this group of students, the second contingent of annual summer scholars to the HKBU programme.  At the same time, as President of UIC, I wish all UIC students a fruitful experience studying and living on the HKBU campus," said Prof C F Ng, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU and Founding President of UIC, who was present at the dinner.

Classes are conducted from 4 July through 25 July and a series of social and cultural activities will be arranged on Wednesdays and over the weekends.  Prof S Y Zee, Vice-President (Academic) and Dean of Science and Technology, extended deep appreciation to the HKBU academic departments and administrative units, including the Academic Registry, Finance Office, ITSC, the Library, and Student Housing Section for making this summer programme possible. Guests included the following HKBU colleagues: Prof Tsoi, Ah Chung, Vice-President (Research & Institutional Advancement), Mr. Andy Lee, Vice President(Administration) & Secretary, Prof. Xinshu, Zhao, Dean of Communication, Prof. Peter Lau, Associate Dean of Business, Prof Vivienne Luk, Associate Director of Institute for Enterprise Development, Head of Management Department, Prof. Odalia Wong, Head of Department of Sociology, Dr. Cheuk Pak Tong, Head of Dept of Cinema and Television, Dr. Robert Lam, Academic Registrar, Dr. Eddie Ho, Director of  Student Affairs, Mr. Fung Man Sang, Acting Director, Communication and Public Relations Office, Mr. Philip Wee, Student Housing Manager.  Course teachers including Dr. Emily Huang, Department of Management, Dr. Mark Li, Department of Social Work, Mr. Antonio Barreira, Department of Accountancy and Law, Mr. K. F. The UIC Summer Programme At HKBU  is one of eight summer programmes organised for UIC students.  Other summer courses will be held in South Korea, Minnisota/USA, and Shandong/China.  Meanwhile, a series of experiential learning activities have been arranged in these locations: Guizhou, Qinghai, Shaanxi, Yunnan, China, Australia and Thailand.
