First Thanksgiving Party at Culture Village

On November 26th, UIC Thanksgiving Party took place at the student hostel culture village, which was put to use for big cultural activities for the first time.  More than 500 teachers and students enjoyed the unforgettable night. There was delicious food and diversified stand games, which made the atmosphere lively.

In the opening speech, Executive Vice-President Prof. Kwok Siu Tong thanked UIC colleagues and students for their great efforts in building UIC. He also appreciated the help from Hong Kong and Mainland China.

Dr. Richard Braxton from the U.S. gave a speech to introduce the Thanksgiving tradition in the States, he reminded the audience to keep a thankful heart, which was a key to happiness. Subsequently an array of wonderful performances appealed to many people. Kenny Zeng from HongKong gave an intriguing bagpipe performance with Scottish traditional costume. Brendan and Imaran from English Language Center showed their talents for violin and guitar, which brought about a lot of applause. UIC Lion Dance show appeared to be a big attraction, which brought the climax to the party.

The Cultural Village square was divided into four parts, exchange zone, game zone, experiencing zone and fancy fair. Foreigners could learn how Chinese traditional dumplings were made at the exchange zone while they served their tasty turkey. People could participate in various games at the game zone and also enjoy the play of a large screen in the experiencing zone. At the fancy fair, a variety of secondhand items and hand-made gifts were available and 60% of money collection would go to charity especially Zhuhai Jinfeng School. UIC United Innovative Charity Club also took the chance to raise funds for voluntary services

Year-two student Chenyun majoring in International Journalism said this wonderful gathering party showed UIC's care for students. Year-three student Caojing who helped organize the party said, the purpose of this party was to enrich students' cultural life at their dormitory area, and make it a wonderful Thanksgiving night for the teachers and students.
