Inauguration of Student Union
"I will take on the duty of serving all teachers and students, thriving on leadership with a working attitude of solidarity, learning and gratefulness. "Student leaders from UIC Student Union, Student Assembly, Hostel Association and all professional societies were taking an oath of office on March 5th at the third UIC Student's Leadership Forum and Student Union Inauguration.
The activity was organized by UIC Student Affairs Office and Student Union with more than 100 student leaders attending in formal dress. UIC Executive Vice-President Kwok Siu Tong, Vice-President Dr. Zhang Cong, Associate Dean of the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences Prof. Xu Yutao, Chief of Student Affairs Office Prof. Johnston Wong and Associate Director of Student Affairs Office Mr. Junyang Li were in attendance.
Prof. Kwok gave an opening address in which UIC student organizations' development history was described. He attached importance to the spirit of servant leadership and hoped that student leaders could serve others in return for being served for so many years.
From Dream to Reality
With Chopin's Piano Concerto N0.1 playing, a forum including intercommunication of distinguished guests and interviews began. Vice-President Dr. Zhang Cong shared his experience with the audience and made a point of individual life goal. When asked how to look for dreams, Mr. Zhang said, students should take an active part in social practice through which they would find what to follow in future. He also encouraged UIC students to make good use of the international resources, and to gain a better understanding of the society.
With respect to combination of ideal and reality in social work, Prof. Xu Yutao pointed out that one should do one's personal best at work or at college, and thinking actively is the way to development; one should also take social benefit into consideration. President of Student Union Yang Daimin expatiated on how he regarded work dilemma and social environment while President of Student Assembly Zhu Yifu gave a brief account of student societies and society. Student representatives from student societies and professional societies were active in exchanging opinions with the guests.
UIC Cultural Construction in Student Community
Associate Director of UIC Student Affairs Office Mr. Li Junyang stated the importance of cultural construction in student communities. Mr Li Junyang stated that, the Chinese traditional culture would be gradually incorporated into the Arts & Culture Village which is styled in western fashions. Representatives from the Hostel Association proposed that, public entertainment devices should be built. A workshop hosted by Miss Liu Zhennan also discussed plans for the cultural construction at C Cultural Village. Miss Liu Zhennan said, there would be art exhibitions, graffiti writings, cultural festivals and other interesting activities in days to come. Students were also active in expressing their ideas about the construction of the Arts & Culture Village.
