The Start Your Business (SYB) training programme which is fully subsidized by the Zhuhai Municipal Government was started on 6 March at UIC. A batch of 30 UIC students became the first to attend this city-wide programme among the university students in Zhuhai. A SYB training platform is being built at UIC at the mean time.

The first stage of training is characterized by 45 hours of lectures in 8 days offered by professional lecturers who possess World Labour Organization qualifications.

Students need to pass interviews to be admitted. Different aspects in relation to starting a business will be covered by the programme. In the end, the participants need to finish a SYB proposal.

The SYB programme which was originated by the World Labour Organization has been implemented in more than 80 countries with the objective of providing assistance to starters of small companies. It was first introduced to higher educational institutions in China in 2005.

In the end of 2009, the Department of Organization and the Department of Human Resources and Social Security of Zhuhai started a training program for Zhuhai university students, which is the SYB program.

In addition to this programme, the Zhuhai government also provides financial support for higher educational institutions to establish SYB training platforms. On 26 February, a delegation headed by the Deputy Head of the Zhuhai Human Recourse and Social Security Department Mr. Zhou Xiaowen conducted an evaluation of the SYB training environment of UIC, which prompted the implementation of such a platform at UIC.
