Published on 14 September 2011

Three UIC research projects won the funds in the 2011 National Natural Science Foundation Project Application, according to the Research Office of UIC. They are Professor RuanBangzhi's project in Information Science, Dr. Yang Zhijiang's project in Life Science and Dr. Zhang zhanrong's project in Mathematical Physics.

Their research funds amounted to 1.24 million yuan. This is the first time that UIC research projects won the funds from NSFC since UIC became a member of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and it was also our first application attempt.

Prof. Zhang Genfa, UIC Registrar/Director of Research Office, said this was a major breakthrough in relation to research funds application and it would bring positive influence to the academic research atmosphere of UIC.

Prof. Zhang also revealed that the Research Office would make more efforts in building research teams and applying for significant research projects. Prof.Zhang said the Division of Science and Technology had possessed the basis of applying for significant research projects, and UIC will consider engaging more research assistants to support professors' research works. For future developments, the Research Office will put the emphasis on expanding subject coverage and improving application quality, especially for the pre-mobilization, project cultivating, pre-assessment, format auditing and so on to ensure the application success rate.

In addition, according to the Research Office, UIC has also become a registered member of the Research Projects in Social Science and Humanities of the Ministry of Education. The application for its research funds will start in March, 2012.
