Concordia Band premiered at UIC on China tour

On May 14 Minnesota’s Concordia College band played to a jubilant audience at UIC. The band played many traditional tunes, such as John Philip Sousa’s the White Rose and Rhapsody in Blue composed by George Gershwin. For appreciating Chinese folk music and to give the audience a warm feeling, the band also played Love song of Kangding and Army Marching Song.

Band conductor Scott A. Jones said the Concordia team was very pleased to perform at UIC, and they had a very nice time in Zhuhai.

The Concordia Band began in 1899 with a small group of instrumental enthusiasts. More than 110 years later, it has grown into a sophisticated organization with a wide reputation for artistic excellence.

The band has performed in Europe, Africa, Japan and South Korea. It is currently on a two-week tour of China, and it will continue its trip to Sichuan. It will also perform at the University of Hong Kong, South China University of Technology, Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou, Communication University of China and other institutions.

As a global liberal arts college like UIC,Concordia College is one of America’s leading private liberal arts schools. In China, the college has established a partnership with Sichuan International Studies University and a strong relationship with UIC.
