On April 27, about 200 teachers and
students attended the DBM 2011/12 High Table Dinner and Mentor Caring Programme
Closing Ceremony.

The guest speaker, Ms. Edith Shih, is the
Head Group General Counsel (since 1993) and Company Secretary (since 1997) of a
Fortune 500 company Hutchison Whampoa Limited.
At Hutchison, she heads a team
of over 250 lawyers and 50 company secretarial executives, stationed in 21
countries, overseeing all legal, regulatory and corporate secretarial affairs
of the group. She also acts as director and company secretary of a number of
Hutchison companies, including listed companies in Hong Kong, London, Australia
and Singapore.
Prior to joining the Hutchison Group, Ms. Shih was in private
practice as a solicitor in a major local law firm.

Ms. Edith Shih shared her lively
experiences as a student and her career development afterwards. She encouraged
students to follow their hearts while choosing study and work in life.
She sang
a lovely song “Over the Rainbow” to summarize her speech then asked students to
name her speech.
Dean
of Division of Business and Management, Prof. Stella Cho, appreciated Ms. Edith
Shih’s speech and presented a souvenir to her on behalf of UIC.
Prof. Cho showed her high regard for Ms.
Edith Shih’s achievements and hoped that students can always keep passionate
about life and pursuing their dreams like Ms. Shih.
