Today, we sing BNBU’s 20 years, to you.
Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU) proudly presents Grow with U, the official theme song for its 20th anniversary. Produced by the Media and Public Relations Office and co-created by its students and faculty, the song embodies BNBU’s spirit of growth, inclusiveness, and innovation. It is now available across all major music platforms.
The music video traces BNBU’s journey, from its founding years to its flourishing present. Every frame is a tender snapshot of time, every note a reminder of shared dreams.
The song’s journey of “growth”
Just like the students it represents, Grow with U itself has grown through collaboration and creativity. Blending traits from R&B, musical, and jazz, it unites diverse musical elements — from the ancient tones of the guqin to the modern sounds of the saxophone.
Over a year in the making, the song went through three major developments. “We wanted it to reflect the diversity and excitement of our university life,” said Gao Yankai, a third-year student of the Department of Music, the song’s composer and one of the project coordinators. “Every sound, every voice represents a part of BNBU.”

Another project coordinator, Lin Yike, a second-year student from the Department of Music, who is one of the lyric writers, a keyboard and recording engineer, said the team returned to campus a week early to rehearse intensively. “Everyone, including singers, musicians, and dancers, gave their all. It was truly a celebration of unity and passion.”

Music Director and Head of the Department of Music Performance Prof Matthew Sansom, praised the team’s effort: “It a large ensemble which is harder to coordinate and make the music work.The sentiment of the lyrics is very sweet and inspiring. Musically, it is uplifting and joyous. The song reflects BNBU’s values and ethos.”
As Lin put it, “The ‘U’ in Grow with U stands for BNBU, but also for ‘you’. Growth is never a one-way journey; it’s something we achieve together.”

The production brought together dozens of students, including guest alumna and singer Feng Qinyuan, who joined in the performance.
Now, as the melody echoes across the campus,
every note becomes a bridge between past and future.
Grow with U is not only sung for those who built BNBU,
but also for those who will carry its light forward — hand in hand, toward the boundless stars.
