June 28, 2007. UIC hosted a press conference to introduce the “Summer Whole Person Education Qinghai-Tibet Experiential Trip” program that will be launched in July. More than ten news media including Hong Kong Economic Journal,Wenweipo, South China Daily, Guangzhou Daily, Yangcheng Evening News, Zhuhai TV, Zhuhai Special Economy Zone Daily, Macau Daily, and Sina.com attended the conference.
UIC Executive Vice President Prof. Kwok Siu Tong pointed out in his speech at the conference that UIC was the first Hong Kong-Mainland cooperative college. It represented the achievement in culture and education of the 10-year practice of the “One Country, Two System” policy. On the occasion of the HKSAR 10th Anniversary, UIC specially planned the Whole Person Education Qinghai-Tibet Experiential Trip with a theme of “Return· Experience· Exceed” as celebration.
According to Whole Person Education Office Director, Program Chief of the Experiential Trip, Dr. Guo Haipeng, the trip to Qinghai-Tibet will last from July 9 to July 31. 90 students in three teams will head for the Yuzhu Apex, the Qinghai Lake, the sauce of the Yangtze River, Kekexili, and Lhasa for voluntary Service, environmental study, mountain climbing, and cultural and art experience. The program will promote the exchange and cooperation between Hong Kong and Tibet, strengthen a sense of belonging and patriotism among students, especially students from Hong Kong and Macau. It is also a review to the practice of the Whole Person Education Concept, which emphasize learning in daily life and experience.
The news media showed great interest to the Program. They had friendly discussions about the program with UIC representatives till the end of the press conference. According to Dr. Guo Haipeng, CCTV-4 and Zhuhai TV will send a team to go with the students and shoot the whole process of their activities, and China Education TV and Tibet TV will also keep tracking the latest developments of the activities.
