Orientation Day
UIC 2008 Orientation Day activities started on Sep.8th and 9th. There were more than 1100 freshmen enrolled, including students from 19 provinces and cities in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao, as well as international students from USA and Korea.
During the orientation days, freshmen and their family members were met by upperclassmen who led the way and helped them with baggages when necessary. Cars were also offered by UIC, picking up the parties and dropping them off at the dormitories. A Parents' Forum on Four Point Education kicked off the activities and a students' photographic exhibition was held to welcome our new students.
There were discussion or Q &A sessions between parents and teachers on how to help students adapt to college life, how to choose a major and finally, what job prospects might be open to UIC graduates. Orientation activities concluded with a High Table Dinner welcoming all parents as well as some new teachers.
The 2008-2009 UIC Opening Ceremony
The 2008-2009 Academic Year Opening Ceremony took place in the afternoon of 26th Sep. More than 1000 freshmen and UIC faculty members attended in the ceremony. Prof. Edmund Kwok, the Executive Vice-President, Prof. Zee Sze Yong and Dr. Zhang Cong, Vice Presidents were present to welcome the new students. They encouraged the new students to face up to the challenges and take the responsibility for themselves to live and study on campus as adults.

Dancing Party
On October 11th, 2008, a dancing party planned by the Student Union and the Preparatory Committee for welcoming new students was held at the UIC Cultural Plaza. The theme was "Carnival Night for the Student Cultural Village ", which left a deep impression to our new schoolmates.
The dancing party opened up with a song given by our campus band, St. Maria, followed by, Chinese and Western musical instruments such as PiPa , the saxophone and a brilliant solo by one of our students.
A variety of UIC clubs and communities such as the cheerleading "Basketball Girls", Nunchakus, HipHop Dance, TaeKwonDo clubs also appeared on stage. The wonderful performances not only brought the students are unforgettable night, but also gave support and encouragement to the UIC clubs for their dedicated preparations.
