The summer training programme for Zhuhai Middle School teachers of English commenced at UIC on 9 August. The programme was co-organized by UIC and the Zhuhai Education Bureau. Thirty English teachers from Zhuhai middle schools participated in the three week training course.

The English teachers communicate with native speakers
The design of the course took into account the actual needs of the teachers. It was rich in content and varied in style: reading, writing, pronunciation, poems, dramas were all included in the programme. The teachers were asked to read a book a day and could only communicate in English. Native speakers from UIC's English Language Centre acted as lecturers and instructors.

Prof. Eva Lai
Prof. Eva Lai, Director of English Language Center, was responsible for the design and organization of the program. She hoped it would assist the teachers in English proficiency and teaching skills.
Miss. Hu, a teacher with 5-years' teaching experience, expressed her interest and feedback, "I was excited to join this programme. But it is more intense than I had expected." Miss. Yang, a teacher from the Tenth Middle School of Zhuhai, said the atmosphere of the class was relaxed and interactive. She hoped she could apply the teaching method in the her work.
