UIC Campus Open Day was held on 20 June 2010. Hundreds of prospective students and their parents from all over the country came and experienced UIC's educational environment and gained the idea about the basic situation of UIC through participating in exhibitions of academic divisions and educational centers, admission presentation, campus tour and various other activities.
UIC Maintains Quality Enrollment
In 2010, UIC offers two new Bachelor Degree Programmers: Translation and Applied Psychology. In total, 17 undergraduate programmes are offered. The number of enrollment is 1000 students which is consistent with last year, for the objective of quality control. UIC will enroll students from 26 provinces and municipalities in 2010. The newly added provinces are Gansu and Shanxi. From 21 provinces including Henan, Human, Fujian, UIC enrolls Band 1 students, and from 5 provinces and municipalities like Guangdong and Hubei, UIC enrolls Band 2 A level students. The total number of Band 2 enrollment decreased more than 200, for more quotas were allocated to Band 1 students.
Dr. Wendy Chan, UIC Associate Vice President and Dr. Kevin Zhen, Director of Admission and Career Development Officer introduced the basic situation of UIC, and answered questions from candidates and their parents during the admission presentation section. Teachers from relevant academic departments also offered on-site consultations.
Dr. Kevin Zhen said, as an innovational college, UIC shoulders the mission of cultivating globalized and localized talents with an international education model. Whole Person Education, emphasizing an all-round development of students, marks the distinctiveness of UIC out of other higher education institutions in Mainland China. He introduced UIC from 6 aspects in detail. Candidates and their parents were impressed by UIC's international innovational education.
Direct Enrollment Examination was Held
UIC Independent Entrance Examination, also referred as the Hong Kong Baptist University Direct Enrollment Examination (in both oral and written English) was held the same day attended by and nearly 200 candidates. Ms. Amanda Cheung, Project Manager of the Open Day mentioned that, this year records the largest number of candidates and the final result of enrollment will be announced in middle-late July.
Student Liu, a candidates from Jiangxi Province said, in order to make sure she will be admitted by UIC, she attended both the national university entrance examination, and UIC Direct Enrollment Examination. Her Mother said that she was impressed by the unique education model of UIC; her daughter expects to be able to learn knowledge and skills in a good learning atmosphere at UIC.
GAC Education Center at UIC Opens
GAC Education Center in Zhuhai, located at UIC student Hostel & Culture Village, was opened the same day. First of its kind in Zhuhai, the GAC Education Center at UIC will commence enrollment this year.
GAC is the world's most recognized university preparation program for students who do not have English as their first language. All students who complete the GAC are eligible to take the ACT TEST, a multiple choice test that is used extensively by universities in the USA to determine university entry. As a GAC graduate, the student will possess university admission requirements including an ACT score and a GAC grade point average (GPA). Having a GAC also means advantage of applying for scholarships. Students are taught by the experienced foreign teachers who have ACT training and obtain international teaching qualifications. The programme will be carried out in small scale classes (no more 25 students) entirely in English.
