Mr. Lee Lik Chee, director of blockbusters like King of Comedies(1999), The God of Cookery(1996), From Beijing with Love(1994) in Hong Kong and the Mainland, visited UIC and gave a lecture titled "comedy movie in Hong Kong" on Oct 13, and was invited to be a consultant in cultural development for UIC. President of UIC Prof. Ng Ching-fai presented him the appointment certificate. The lecture was organized by the Arts and Cultural Development Centre of UIC.
The lecture was encouraging and full of laughter. Director Lee used his own experience in the television and movie industry as an example to motivate students to look for their dreams and fight for them. "Find your dream," said Director Lee, "I wanted to be a director since I was studying in Secondary Four. My teacher didn't support me, but I knew I wanted it and I worked hard for it since then." Director Lee also stated that once people found out what they really want to do, they had to bear in mind that they must keep improving themselves.
For Director Lee, making audience laugh is not the only objective of comedy, what's more important and the hardest is that audience could feel touched by the comedy.
Dr. Nancy Wu, Programme Coordinator of CTV, sent Director Lee a DVD copy of the 2006 CTV graduates' final year projects, to the screening of which he sent congratulatory words through video.
Jessica Zhu, a year-three student from Cultural Industries Management, said the seminar was meaningful. "I learned a lot by seeing Director Lee's love and passion for his profession. He also sets a good example for me with his spirit of hard working."
