A buffet party was held for all staff to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival at UIC on Sept 20, attended by around 50 foreign staff and 200-plus Chinese staff.
Prof. Ng Ching-fai, President of UIC showed up at the party and met face to face with old and new teachers and staff.
Prof. Ng said he was glad to be at the gathering. He said: "Mid-Autumn Day is one of the most important festivals for Chinese. It is a time for family reunion. As China has undergone a lot of social changes in recent years, many young people have to leave their hometown to get a job. For many of us UIC is our second home, because we are a family and we can share the Mid-Autumn Festival together. At the beginning of the academic year, I would also like to take this opportunity to wish every one a very rewarding school year ahead and that we can bring UIC to a new height of success. "
The UIC Lion Dance Team warmed up the party with their performance. Candy Zhou, a year-four student from SWSA, narrated a story about the Mid-Autumn Festival in English. Ms. Dang Dongmei from Physical Education Centre performed a folk song solo. There was also traditional music on Guzheng, Pipa and Erhu performed by UIC students.
Foreign teachers found the story surrounding "mooncakes" very interesting. Some of them organized private parties to celebrate this occasion.
