I would definitely choose UIC if I were 50 years younger

"If I were 50 years younger, I would definitely choose UIC." said Prof. Xu Jialu, former Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and Chairman of the UIC Council, during the opening ceremony of the UIC Learning Resource Centre (LRC) on 22nd November. Prof. Xu said it would be blissful to work or study in UIC and that the development of UIC was encouraging.

Located at the Student's Hostel and Cultural Village (SCHV), the new LRC started functioning on 22nd November. LRC has the largest collection of foreign language books in the Western Pearl River Region. In addition to functioning as a library, it also provides students with a good learning environment.

Many distinguished guests attended the event, including Wilfred Wong, Chairman of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU)'s Council; Pro.f Zhong Binglin, President of Beijing Normal University (BNU); Prof. Albert Chan, President of HKBU; Ms. Qian Fangli, Municipal vice secretary of Zhuhai; Mr. Wang Qingli, Vice mayor of Zhuhai; Mr. Liu Jia, vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; Mr. Zhong Yijun, Director of the Education Bureau of Zhuhai; Mr. Hu Zhenmin, Director of the Division of Higher Education of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, as well as principles of key high schools in China and experts in Library from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau.

Prof.  Xu is excited about the development of UIC

Prof. Xu gave a speech at the ceremony. He stated that the opening of LRC was a great event for UIC. He was very excited to see the progress of UIC and the growth of students. "If I were 50 years younger, I would definitely choose UIC", said Prof. Xu.

Prof. Xu also assured that BNU and HKBU would work together to provide UIC more resources to boost its development.  He hoped that UIC could set a new model of tertiary education for China.

LRC was widely praised

"UIC has been improving its infrastructure since foundation." said Ng Ching Fai, President of UIC. "First we have our teaching building, then administration building, then SHCV. The establishment of LRC is always a high priority for us."

LRC is also highly recognized by experts of Library. According to Cheng Huanwen, Librarian of the Sun Yat-Sen University Library, such a large volume of foreign language books is rare among Guangdong universities. "LRC's rapid growth in electronic resources conforms to the development trend of university library."

Ms. Yang Qiongfang, a representative for parents, donated a RFID library monitoring system on behalf her company Invengo Information Technology Co. Ltd. to UIC. According to Ms. Yang, she agrees with UIC's educational concept and her child is developing well in UIC.
