Dr. Cheng Yukshing, associate professor of the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), visited UIC on 27th February and gave a speech on the topic "RMB Exchange Rate Policy after the Financial Tsunami Period". The lecture held by Division of Business and Management attracted around 40 professionals from the finance industry in Zhuhai. Prof. Stella Cho, Dean of DBM, made a welcoming speech. She said that the relationship between HKBU and UIC was very close and there would be more activities like this in the future.

Dr. Cheng Yukshing
Dr. Cheng talked about the situation of the RMB exchange rate nowadays and provided a thorough analysis. He pointed out three reasons which led to the trade imbalance. First, it was caused by the globalization. The imbalance of the demand structure of the two countries was a second contributor. Third, China's manufacturing industry was rather developed while the tertiary industry had yet to be improved. Dr. Cheng said that China should focus to solve the internal cause of the imbalance.
There was a question and answer section during the lecture. Dr. Cheng was asked for his opinion about how the government should solve the problem. His point of view was that the government should not limit the imports. Instead, they should make the RMB increase in value with dynamic stability.

Prof. Shi Yizheng
During the lecture, Prof. Shi Yizheng from HKBU and Dr. Shawn Tang from UIC gave a brief introduction about the HKBU MBA course for Mainland students. The course comprises two parts: required course and elective course. They will all be conducted in Mandarin during weekends to accommodate Chinese students who have to work on weekdays. All teachers are from HKBU. The course will start in May at UIC. For more information about the MBA Course, please click here.
