Xue Zhiying, a student of the Cinema and Television Program of UIC, won the Silver Award of the 2012 “Golden Key Student Competition of Creative Works with New Media” in a ceremony at the Ocean Spring Resort of Zhuhai on 13 December 2012.
Eight awards were given in genres for animation series, comic, microfilm, mobile phone content, and others, aiming at building a new platform for creative industries and scouting for outstanding university students. More than 4000 student works were submitted in the competition from more than 100 universities, including from universities of Hong Kong and Macao.
Xue Zhiying won the Silver Award for her microfilm “Butterfly Sand”, a biography of a couple during the Cultural Revolution based on an adaption of a true story. With an esthetical manner, exquisite emotion and strong local characteristics, the works showed the quality of her professional concepts and skills under UIC creative education.

The organisers of the competition were the Centre for Network Film & Television of CYLC, China Social Welfare Foundation, Macao Foundation, Macao Inspirational Youth Association, China Animation Association, and Zhuhai Television among others. It drew widespread attention and was covered by media from around the nation, such as the Xinhua News Agency, China News Service and well-known Internet media including Tencent, Sohu and China United Television.
