Prof. Zee informed the new foreigners of Zhuhai’s geography, population, historical sites and figures, and other native information.

He focused on Zhuhai’s rapidly-developing Hengqin New Area: an island which plays a significant role in geopolitics and economy among the mainland, Macau and Hong Kong.

Hengqin will be the new Shenzhen or Shanghai, and is already under construction. “UIC launched a Research and Development Finance Training Centre on the island last August as part of the strategic cooperation between UIC and the Hengqin New Area,” Prof. Zee added.

He also introduced the history and current state of Hong Kong, highlighting the “One Country, Two Systems” policy.

By the time the Hong Kong - Zhuhai - Macau Bridge is built three years from now, opportunities for all parties will be forthcoming, and relationships will improve even more.

At the end of the talk, Prof. Zee delightfully shared information to enable the foreigners to learn more about Zhuhai and China.

One participant said this informative speech helped her to understand local culture and the relation between Zhuhai and Hong Kong. She will continue to attend the following talks to know more about China.

The talk series, organised by the Chinese Language and Culture Centre, covers amongst others China’s history, philosophy, religion, politics, economy and education. It aims to provide an overview of Chinese culture, society and development for non-Chinese speakers of UIC.
