UIC will confer Honorary Fellowships on four prominent individuals in the fields of academia, media and literature this year.
They will be the former President of City University of Hong Kong and former Chairman of the Cultural and Heritage Commission of Hong Kong Prof Chang Hsin-Kang, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Limited Liu Changle, Augsburg College President Dr Paul C Pribbenow, and famous writer and former Minister of Culture of China Wang Meng.
The Honorary Fellowship is an honour bestowed on distinguished contributors to the mission of UIC for their sustained commitment to the development of education and society.
Presided over by Prof Jialu Xu, Chairman of the UIC Council and former Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, the 7th Graduation Ceremony and Honorary Fellowship Conferment will be held on 27 June at UIC.

As the first college co-founded by educational institutions between Hong Kong and mainland China, UIC conferred its first Honorary Fellowships in 2012, keeping up with Hong Kong Baptist University’s tradition.

Prof CHANG Hsin-Kang

Professor CHANG Hsin-Kang is a world-renowned expert in biomedical engineering. He taught at the State University of New York at Buffalo, McGill University and the University of Southern California. Professor Chang then held successive posts as the Founding Dean of the School of Engineering at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Dean of the School of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, and President of City University of Hong Kong. He was also named by the Government of France to be Chévalier de l’Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur, and was awarded a Gold Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong SAR Government. Professor Chang has mastery of the Chinese, English and French languages and has great insights into Chinese and Western cultures and social history. He has served in various public offices, including as Chairman of the Cultural and Heritage Commission of Hong Kong. In addition, he is the author of numerous articles on society, education, science, culture and civilizations.

Mr LIU Changle is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Limited. Founding Phoenix Satellite Television Company Limited in 1996, Mr Liu has gained widespread recognition both locally and overseas for his enthusiasm and achievements in the Chinese media industry. He is also a visiting professor at a number of mainland universities, and has been appointed to the board of directors of Nanjing University, Tongji University and Huaqiao University. Mr Liu was conferred an honorary doctoral degree in literature by the City University of Hong Kong and was appointed as the Chairman of the College International Advisory Board by the University’s College of Business. In 2010, he was awarded a Silver Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong SAR Government.

Dr Paul PRIBBENOW, the 10th president of Augsburg College, is recognised as one of the country’s most engaging commentators and teachers on ethics, philanthropy, and American public life. Located in Minneapolis, Augsburg College is a private liberal arts college and an institutional member of the Minnesota Private College Council (MPCC). Since joining Augsburg in 2006, Dr Pribbenow has enhanced the College’s role as an active community partner in its urban setting. In his role as a leader in MPCC, Dr Pribbenow has strengthened collaboration between Augsburg College and UIC. During his several visits to UIC in the past few years, he has delivered Presidential Lectures at Sino-American Liberal Arts Forums and gave speeches at a conference on social work and a High Table Dinner.

Mr WANG Meng is a famous writer and an Honorary Vice Chairman of the Chinese Writers Association. He served as Minister of Culture of China, as Chairperson of the Committee for Learning and Cultural and Historical Data under the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, as President of the Chinese National Academy of Arts, and in other positions. During his more than 60 years of writing and research, Mr Wang has created a large number of works, including dozens of novels like Long Live Youth and A Rockie Joined the Office. He has been a professor, a visiting professor, an honorary professor and an advisor at many universities. In recent years Mr Wang has been actively engaged in literary and academic exchanges between mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
