The Division of Humanities and Social Sciences (DHSS) organised a theme week between 18 and 22 May in celebration of UIC’s 10th anniversary.

DHSS’s eight programmes showed their charm by putting forth a variety of activities. They included campaign projects on animal and environmental protection, interpreting demonstrations, hands-on film making, a drama performance, a mock classroom teaching competition, a documentary show, a forum on career development, and a Japanese Culture Day.
Dean of DHSS Prof Mei-hwa Sung said, “These activities are meant to be student-centred, interactive, educational and, most importantly, fun.”

A variety of educational and entertaining activities are held during the DHSS Week |
The DHSS Week started with a Final Year Project Poster Exhibition, where Year Four students presented the gist of their months or even years of hard work.
UIC President Prof Ng Ching-Fai remarked, “These projects realise our commitment to celebrating and nurturing excellence while on a broader level crystallising the vision to create an innovative and international model for the teaching of the humanities and social sciences.”

During the Week, Prof Tian-Dow Lee, Founder of the Research Institute for Media Technology and Creative Industries (Taipei) encouraged students to innovate and create at his High Table Dinner speech “Creativity: the Unusual amidst the Familiar”.
A career talk was also held. Founder of Delta Bridges Jean-Jacques Verdun, Chinese Communications Practitioner April Sun as well as AFP Global News Management journalist Eric Wishart shared their views on media and communications industries.
