UIC's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) and the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), respectively, underwent a comprehensive visit by the Academic Consultation Panel (ACP) composed of external experts and scholars recently. The purpose of the review is to examine the performance of the two faculties in teaching, research, management and more from the perspectives of external experts.
The two panels met with department heads, faculty representatives, members of the advisory committee, students and graduate representatives to understand and evaluate the teaching and research activities of the faculties in detail, covering their strategic planning, organisational management, curriculum setting, academic and practical resources for students, faculty and staff development, teaching and research support and other aspects, and provided valuable feedback and suggestions.
For FHSS, the panel members consisted of Emeritus Professor of the University of Macao and Visiting Professor of the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow Prof Martin Montgomery; Dr Cheng Wah Kwan of the University of Saint Joseph, Macao; Prof David Britton of Swansea University; Professor and Head of the Department of English and Communication of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Eric Friginal; Prof Wendy Chen of the University of Hong Kong; Prof Yao Zhihua of the Chinese University of Hong Kong; and Managing Director of the KS Macao Culture and Communication Co., Ltd. (Macao) Ms Song Wendi.
For FST, the panel members were Prof Song Xinyuan of the Department of Statistics of the Chinese University of Hong Kong; Dr Han Yuxing of Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School; Prof He Bingsheng of the Department of Computer Science of the National University of Singapore; Dr Shi Zheng of the School of Intelligent Systems Science and Engineering of Jinan University; Professor of Mathematics of the University of Oxford Qian Zhongmin; Chair Professor Chang Lei, Head of the Department of Psychology of the University of Macao; Prof Wendy Chen of the Department of Geography of the University of Hong Kong; Prof Wong Man-sau of the Department of Food Science and Nutrition of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Director of the Research Centre for Chinese Medicine Innovation.
