Dear Staff and Students,
We are delighted to announce that the Chi Quartet will perform a concert entitled “The Unspoken” on Monday, December 2nd 2019, at 7:00pm in the Performance Theater. The concert features the Rotterdam-based CHI Quartet and includes pianist Ms. SIU Tin-Chi (China - Hong Kong), harmonicist Mr. Armand van Wijck (Netherlands), bassist Mr. Yiannis Vagianos (Greece) and drummer Mr. Django Buiting (Netherlands).
Ms. SIU graduated in classical music at the Manhattan School of Music in New York. Here she developed a special interest in minimalism and film scores. Afterwards she continued to explore jazz at the conservatory of Rotterdam, Netherlands. Life in several vibrant metropolises, her admiration for Scandinavian musicians such as Esbjörn Svensson and her classical background can be evidently heard in her contemporary compositions.
Mr. van Wijck is also invited to give a lecture on Monday, December 2nd 2019, at 12:00pm in the Rehearsal Studio(CC129). He is the first chromatic harmonica player and Dutch man – from a full time jazz study at Codarts Conservatory. In the lecture he will share his aesthetic of Jazz from Northwestern Europe, experience of Jazz composition and improvisation.
