The First UIC Economic Forum

The First UIC Economic Forum, organized by students of the Applied Economics Society, Finance Society and Accounting Society, was held from Nov. 26 to Nov. 29, 2007. With the support of the professors of the Business and Management Division, the forum successfully offered a platform outside the classroom for exchange of ideas on hot topics of China's current economy development.

After a brief opening ceremony on Nov. 26, an exhibition was held to introduce the topics of discussion of the forum, such as foreign investment, inflation, difficulties in developing the mining industry, the development of the cultural industry.

On Nov. 27, Dr. Kevin Zhen, Assistant Professor of the Division of Business and Management, delivered a lecture entitled "The Survival of George Soros, the Global Financier ". Dr. Kevin disclosed the secret of Soros' success in a review of the life experience of Soros and the strategies adopted by him in dealing with different financial situations.

The Competition for Research on Economic Topics started on Nov. 28, 2007. Six groups out of twenty fought their way into the Final through fierce competition. Their research area covered inflation in China, the trap of counterfeit goods, the potential dangers in the economic development of China, the mining industry in China, the economy impact caused by the cultural industry, etc.

The First UIC Economic Forum encouraged students to learn and practice by themselves. It was a successful implementation of the liberal arts education philosophy and Whole Person Education concept.
