On June 3, 2008 a delegation headed by Mr. Huang Xiaodong, Standing Committee Member and Publicity Chief of CPC Zhuhai, with other members including Ms. Xu Huiping, Deputy Chief of Publicity, and officers from the Zhuhai Culture Bureau, the Zhuhai Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Social Sciences Association, the Zhuhai Daily and the Zhuhai TV Station visited UIC. The delegation had an informal discussion with UIC representatives on "how to construct Zhuhai city into a new ecological city". Mr. Huang highly approved UIC's scheme and responded cordially to our proposals.

Prof. Kwok Siu Tong, Executive Vice-President, and several heads of other departments and faculties of UIC joined the discussion. Prof. Kwok illustrated the concept of "Ecological Civilization" from the point of view of natural ecology, social ecology and cultural ecology. He also briefed the delegation on the role UIC would be willing to play in advocating ecological civilization in Zhuhai. Prof. Kwok concluded that the construction of a new ecological city was a dynamic, interactive and human-oriented progress which required a fusion of culture and life, of international and local cooperation, and of regional resources.

Experts, scholars and section chiefs from UIC presented proposals with these titles: "Promoting Whole Person Education to Upgrade Social Ecological Civilization", "Ecological Civilization Begins with the Cultural Village", "Conception of Huitong Culture City", "Developing Local Cultural Heritage to Build up the Cultural Industry of Zhuhai", "The Significance of Classical Chinese Studies in Today's World" and "Setting up the Local English Media".

Mr. Huang listened to the reports and praised UIC as "a banner in higher education reform". He responded to the proposals enthusiastically and said that the existence of UIC promoted the popularity of Zhuhai globally, and had, in fact, upgraded the level of general education and culture. Culture played an important role in the development of a city. UIC's innovative ideas coincided with the new policies adopted by Zhuhai Party Committee and Municipal Government, creating room for cooperation in promoting Zhuhai into a new ecological city, a widely known cultural city and innovative city. Mr. Huang suggested that the Social Sciences Association, the Zhuhai Daily and the Zhuhai TV Station should work closely with UIC in this common enterprise.

Mr. Huang and the delegation then toured the UIC campus with Prof. Kwok.
