210 Students Awarded Scholarships Totaling 1.6 Million Yuan

The 2007-2008 UIC Scholarship Awards Ceremony was held on 8th April for 210 students with outstanding academic achievement. Among them, 59 students won scholarships for excellent results on entrance exams, 99 won the second-class scholarship and the first-class scholarship went to 39 students. In addition, five students became winners of the Prof. Herbert Tsang Scholarship, and eight students  were granted the Mr. Fung Sun Kwan Scholarship. A total of 1.6 million Yuan was awarded to students. The number of the students winning a scholarship is 6% of the total number of students.

In the opening address, the Executive Vice-President Prof. Kwok Siu Tong said that the scholarship system at UIC was set to promote students' overall behaviour and achievements. He appreciated the support given by Mr. Fung and was proud of all the senior students who had shared the happiness and frustrations with UIC in the past 3 years.

Mr. Fung Sun Kwan attended the ceremony with his wife. He expressed his congratulations to the winners and hoped that the awards could stimulate their desire for greater success in future. With respect to UIC, he expressed approval of the education philosophy and wished to stride ahead with concerted efforts.

After the ceremony, the reporter interviewed some winners. Dan Di Wu was one of the students who won the Prof. Herbert Tsang Scholarship. She was very inquisitive and was popular with teachers. She was also independent and self-supporting by giving dancing lessons. Tingting Yin, a year three student in accounting major, was awarded both the first-class scholarship and the Prof. Herbert Tsang Scholarship. she disclosed that the scholarship would be used for the purpose of study such as tuition fee.
