UIC Students Music Day on April 29

Published on 2 June 2009

The musical talents of 75 UIC students were highlighted with 3 concerts in one day, with some of the most dedicated students participating in more than one.

At noon in the upper level of the exhibition hall there was an open introduction to Javanese culture by Dr. Kitty Pappas. After a brief explanation of some of the traditional customs, as well as shadow puppets and geography a student group played a traditional Central Javanese piece. This collection of bronze and wood percussion instruments was custom made in Surakarta, Java. All visitors were invited to play the instruments.
