On April 14th, UIC Open Forum on "What Is the UIC Personality" was held in celebration of UIC Fifth Anniversary, which attracted approximately 120 teachers and students from eleven academic programmes and a few administrative departments.

In the opening speech, UIC Executive Vice-President Prof. Kwok Siutong emphasized that care, love, respect and concern for individuals, college, community and society were the unique spirit that helped UIC stand up to the tremendous challenges of running the first liberal arts college with international academic standard in Mainland China.

The student representative of UIC Student Association Yang Daimin associated UIC personality with freedom, enthusiasm and international vision. UICers enjoy the cultural and academic platform which was built by scholars from more 20 countries, and act with liberal arts concepts.

Subsequently, group discussions were carried out to conceive key words in relation to UIC personality as well as slogans for UIC fifth anniversary. With three-minute speeches, student representatives from various programmes and professional societies shared their discussion outcomes with the audience.

Some regarded global vision, solidarity and creativity as the UIC spirit. Some incorporated the concept of freedom into academic exchange, open discussion and campus activities. Some considered that UICers keep embracing and learning anything new as well as maintaining their own characteristics.

The slogans were also innovative and attractive. For example, "You and I can change the world", "Pursue to be microcosm of the world", "United in learning, international in thought". Some students even performed a song bearing the slogan.
