UIC/HKIB CFMP Agreement Signing Ceremony cum Forum on the Future Prospect in the Banking Industry was held on Oct 21 at UIC campus. In the event, UIC and Hong Kong Institute of Bankers (HKIB) signed an agreement which enabled UIC students to have Certified Financial Management Planner (CFMP) tests on campus. With the certificate, qualified students will have comparative advantage when entering the banking industry. Five international banks, including Dah Sing Bank, HSBC, Macau Luso International Banking Limited, Standard Chartered Bank and Wing Hang Bank, (alphabetical order) participated and interviewed UIC students for internships and placements.
This activity was organized by DBM, UIC and sponsored by HKIB. The whole event consisted of five parts: UIC & HKIB Agreement Signing Ceremony, Panel Forum, HKIB Information Seminar, Career Talk and Counseling and Career Exhibition. Dr. Patrick Fung, Chairman of Executive Committee & Vice President of HKIB, Professor Ng Ching-fai, UIC President, Prof. Kwok Siu-tong, UIC Executive Vice-President, and Prof. Stella Cho, Dean of DBM attended the activity.
In the opening ceremony, Prof. Ng delivered a welcome speech and introduced general concepts about UIC. Dr. Patrick Fung also gave a detailed speech about CMFP, "CFMP is the first and only one programme incorporating banking and wealth management practices that integrates international standards and local needs. After signing the agreement, UIC graduates will be able to take the exam on campus which has great significance for their career development."
The representatives of each bank complimented UIC students on their outstanding performance. The interviewer of Standard Chartered Bank said: "After several rounds of interview, I notice that UIC students are good at communication, especially their English speaking abilities." Apart from praise, an interviewer suggested that orientating yourself also offer a lot of assistance to a person's career development. The HR manager of HSBC, Wendy Lee, emphasized: "Every year, working opportunities of HSBC are irregularly scheduled. Candidates' personal abilities, especially communication skills and innovation talents, play an important role when applying for jobs." In addition, she advised students to keep a lookout on the website of HSBC.
Generally, UIC students found the banking forum beneficial in that they could learn how to do career planning. Moreover, it was a very good opportunity for them to practice their interview skills. A year 3 student said: "I benefited a lot from today's forum. For example, I know that personal abilities and traits outweigh students' discipline when applying for a job. I wish more similar events will be held in the future."
