In 2011, United International College planned to admit 1,200 new students, and later granted entry to 1,239 nationwide. The Admission Office is pleased to report a remarkable improvement in the quality of new entrants, a number of them with exceptional high score in College Entrance Examination. Applicants who put UIC as the first preference has also increased. UIC kept its high popularity in Guang Dong Province, boosting the entry level to a record high. UIC would also like to congratulate 4 of our new entrants, who will receive a scholarship that shall fund their tuition fees for the first year.
This year, UIC will welcome new students from 26 different administrative regions. Entry levels in 25 of them exceed the first tier, with the exception of Guang Dong, demanding second tier A or higher. UIC now offers 19 different programmes, with the new introduction of Financial Mathematics and Contemporary English Language and Literature.
The Admission Office is, yet again, proud to see a rise in UIC’s popularity. A student from Beijing with College Entrance Examination results 129 points higher than first tier benchmark will be joining us this year, together with another high school graduate from Xin Jiang, boasting 129 points higher than the respective first tier benchmark.
In Guang Dong, UIC again enjoys a very encouraging response in terms of entry application this year. All places are filled in the first round of allotment, while our entrance requirement is higher than the second tier A level for more than 19 and 24 points, in arts and science stream respectively. Enrolment in Hong Kong, Macau and Overseas maintain the same level compared to last year.
Prof C.F. Ng, President of UIC, says he is pleased with the admission work this year. “The tuition fee has gone up this year, as well as the entry requirements,” he says, “but we still received a lot of applications. More students put UIC as their first preference, entry requirements in Guang Dong has hit a record high. These show that we are highly favourable amongst other competing universities in China.” Prof Ng also indicates that UIC is undergoing further improvements in both facilities and teaching qualities. Investment has been made to better dormitories for the students. New developments and refurbishments on teaching buildings are also under way. Similarly, by recruiting globally, UIC continues to attract and provide staff with academic excellence, which aims to deliver top-class teaching standards.
