UIC offers students various overseas summer programmes

Published on 12 March 2013

Ten overseas summer programmes for students are available this year, UIC's International Development Office (IDO) announced on 5 March. The programmes are offered at various universities and colleges in the U.S., the U.K., France, South Korea and Canada.

Two new options this year are the programmes at Stanford University in the U.S. and Middlesex University in the U.K. (These are the only programmes where students will not get college credits.) During the 14-day programme at Stanford University, students will receive humanities and liberal arts education given by Stanford University faculty. In the U.K., students will focus on IELTS preparation and take a British culture course, and will have the chance to gain an IELTS certificate.

The other eight programmes are at St. Joseph's College, Hamline University, Bethany Lutheran College and Concordia College in the U.S.; the University of Seoul and Kyunghee University in South Korea; Lille Catholic University in France; and the University of Victoria in Canada. Credits for these summer programmes can be transferred back to the UIC academic system, provided that the student receives a grade of "C" or higher, and provided that the student has not already undertaken the same course at UIC. However, these credits will not be counted in the student's CGPA.

Applicants for these programmes must have a CGPA of at least 2.0, and for some programmes applicants have to provide IELTS test results.

In addition to the programmes mentioned above, students can also apply for a New Zealand study trip this summer. "There is no requirement of GPA or language proficiency. The trip is not a course but is intended to improve students' English," said Ms. Victoria Steven, a lecturer in UIC's English Language Centre.
