The Scholarship Presentation Ceremony for the Academic Year 2011-2012 is held in triumph

On 20 March 2013, 208 UIC students were awarded for their excellent academic performance in the Academic Year 2011-2012, at the annual Scholarship Presentation Ceremony.

Three students were given the 2011 Renewal of Full Entrance Scholarship, and five Hong Kong students received the Admission Scholarship for Outstanding Students in 2012 (Hong Kong).

The First Class Award went to 40 students, and the Second Class Award to 128 students from different divisions.

A number of special scholarships were also presented, such as the Prof. Herbert Tsang Scholarship, which went to four students for excelling in overall academic events; the Prof. Xu Jialu Whole Person Education Award, given to 15 students who were outstanding in Whole Person Education; the Mr. and Mrs. Franco Cutrupia Mainland Students Scholarship, offering financial support to a freshman, which was awarded to one student; and the Mr. Fung Sun Kwan Scholarship of Excellence, awarded to 12 students for their brilliance in the study of Chinese culture and society.

“I would like to extend my heartiest thanks to Mr. Fung Sun Kwan, Prof. Hebert Tsang, Mr. Franco Cutrupia and Mrs. Pauline Wei Cutrupia for their support to UIC throughout the years,” Prof. Ng Ching-Fai, President of UIC, said in his welcome speech. He also stressed his belief in Liberal Arts and Whole Person Education, and encouraged students to make an effort to achieve good results.

To the 208 students awarded with various scholarships, Professor Ng said, “To all these recipients, I extend my heartiest congratulations.”

Shan Jing, a student in the Teaching English as a Second Language Programme, gained both the First Class Award and the Prof. Xu Jialu Whole Person Education Award. “I do not think I am the most hardworking student, but I believe what makes me different or ahead of the others academically, is that I have a study style that fits me,” she said. She later shared her two favourite mottos: “Know yourself” and “Think a little bit more, and ask a little bit more”.
