In a spectacular showing, UIC students won 12 individual prizes and four team prizes at the National Qualifying Competition of the 2013 Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship (MOS Championship) held in Beijing in May. Remarkably, Wu Nan, a Year Two Finance student, won the national championship of the Excel 2010 competition, and is eligible to enter the final round for the worldwide championship due in July and August, competing against contestants from more than 60 countries.

The National Qualifying Competition of the MOS Championship in China consisted of two home categories: Office 2007 and Office 2010, including competition in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. In the national event, participants competed in subjective items and computer-based tests, and those who had the highest exam scores or lowest exam-completion times stood out.
Among all the contestants from a multitude of universities and colleges of the country, UIC won a series of significant team awards including the MOS Outstanding Organisation Award, the MOS Team Excel 2010 First Prize, Word 2010 Second Prize, and PowerPoint 2010 Third Prize. Eleven individuals got excellent results in the above-mentioned events with first to third prizes. Besides these significant individual achievements, Wu Nan was victorious in the Microsoft Excel 2010 competition. She is thus qualified to go into the final round for the worldwide championship.
The MOS Championship, dubbed “the Olympics of Office”, is co-organised by Microsoft and Certiport every year. In its 12-year history, participants have competed in their own countries or regions from April to June, and the national or regional champions vie for the world championships in the U.S. from July to August.
