A total of twenty international interns joined UIC on 26 August. They are from Augsburg College, Concordia College, Gustavus Adolphus College, the College of St Scholastica, Oberlin College, Portland State University and the University of California.
UIC Vice President Prof Zee Sze Yong warmly welcomed the interns and expressed his expectations of the internship programme. At the welcome lunch arranged by UIC’s International Development Office, he pointed out the important role interns play in UIC’s teaching culture and hoped they would quickly adapt to life in China and enjoy their stay.

The welcome lunch was also attended by Associate Vice President Prof Lilian Kwan, Dean of the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences Prof Mei-hwa Sung, Dean of the Division of Business and Management Prof Stella Cho, Dean of the Division of Science and Technology Prof Stephen Chung, and Assistant Director of the English Language Centre Mr John Halstead.

During the whole day, the interns received a general orientation to learn about UIC and daily life in China. Ms Chasy Guo from the Human Resources Office explained HRO's rules and regulations. A Survival Chinese Course was given by Ms Candy Cai from the Chinese Language and Culture Centre. Dr Katharina Yu, Director of International Development Office, provided practical tips for foreigners on how to live in Zhuhai. And Grace McLagan from the English Language Centre shared her experiences as a UIC intern.
