Internship programmes on environmental studies launched

Recently, UIC has launched on-campus and off-campus new internship programmes for Environmental Science (ENVS) students. UIC signed a cooperation agreement with the Shenzhen Subsidiary of China Design Group Co., Ltd to establish the UIC Industrial-University Research Collaboration Centre and launching the Water Environment Monitoring Unmanned Boat cum on-campus Student Internship Programme with Estates and Campus Development Office (ECDO).


Establishment of UIC Industrial-University Research Collaboration Centre

On 28 April, the UIC ENVS Programme and Shenzhen Subsidiary of China Design Group Co., Ltd cooperated in establishing the UIC Industrial-University Research Collaboration Centre.

Programme Director and Associate Professor of ENVS, Dr Tsim Siu-tai, Assistant Professor of ENVS, Dr Li Xun, and Instructor of ENVS, Ms He Shimei, presented at the ceremony.

Dr Tsim Siu-tai and Deputy Chief Engineer and Director of Shenzhen Subsidiary of China Design Group Co., Ltd Ms Zhang Li signed the cooperation agreement at the ceremony. In the future, both parties will conduct cooperation on scientific research, technical development and upgrading, and other fields. The programme will also benefit ENVS students by providing them internship opportunities and practical experiences in the China Design Group. In addition, some of them can complete final year projects in the enterprise.

China Design Group Co., Ltd, the comprehensive engineering consulting enterprise for more than 60 years, is China's first comprehensive engineering consulting with a Certificate of Comprehensive Grade A Engineering Test Institution for Highway Engineering. The cooperation aims to realise the complementary advantages of college-enterprise cooperation, promote subject development, and strive for mutual benefits. UIC students who used to work as interns in China Design Group have earned praises from the enterprise.


Newly launched Water Environment Monitoring Unmanned Boat cum on-campus student internship programme

Water Environment Monitoring Unmanned Boat cum on-campus student internship programme, jointly conducted by ENVS and UIC's Estates and Campus Development Office (ECDO), was officially launched on 13 May.

The internship programme aims to assist the management of the pond water environment on campus and promote the construction of a green and sustainable campus. Students will take the pond water sample using the crewless boat. The students will calculate a series of statistics with the samples, including water temperature, pH value, dissolved oxygen level, and permitted standard of clone formula unit (CFU) of faecal coliform. In addition, students attending the programme will learn about boat techniques, laboratory testing techniques, and practical knowledge of water environment monitoring.
