As the Lecture Series on Contemporary World and China continues, UIC Provost, Prof Chen Zhi, talked about 'Foundation of Chinese Culture: Confucianism and Confucius' on 28 April in UIC's University Hall. UIC Academic Registrar Prof Li Jianhui hosted the lecture.

In the lecture, Prof Chen Zhi cited many historical pieces of literature talk about the difference between "ru (儒)" and "rujia (儒家)", as well as the relationship between Confucianism and Mohism. He offered his opinions on the existing discussions in academia. He pointed out that "儒" is different from "儒家". To further explain the meaning of "儒", apart from combining ancient literature with the inscriptions on bones, Prof Chen also told many interesting stories. He encourages students to learn more about Confucius through museum visits.
In the second part about Confucius, Prof Chen talked about Confucius’s life experience and the era that he lived in. Studies on archaeological excavations were also included in this part to help students understand Confucius.
