The Symposium on the 100th Anniversary of Publishing “An Enquiry Concerning the Principles of Natural Knowledge” in honour of Alfred North Whitehead was held at UIC on 14 December.

Organised by UIC’s Whole Person Education Office (WPEO) and Beijing Institute of Technology, Zhuhai, the symposium gathered 20 scholars from Mainland China, Taiwan, the US, Italy and other regions.
Alfred North Whitehead (1861–1947) was a British mathematician and philosopher best known for his work in mathematical logic and the philosophy of science.
In collaboration with Bertrand Russell, Whitehead co-authored the landmark three-volume Principia Mathematica. He was instrumental in pioneering the approach to metaphysics, which is now known as process philosophy. His theory in “The Aims of Education” in 1929 has had a profound influence on western education.
During the eight-hour symposium, keynote speeches were given by Prof Yu Yih-hsien from Tunghai University, Taiwan, and Prof Yang Fubin from Beijing Institute of Technology, Zhuhai.
