Published on 17 November 2020

Deputy Secretary of the CPC Zhuhai Municipal Committee and Mayor, Yao Yisheng, gave a lecture to UIC students and staff on 11 November.

Yao Yisheng discussed the changes and achievements in Zhuhai since China's Reform and Opening-up. He pointed out that while they are young, students should hone their skills, improve their moral qualities, and develop good habits that will benefit them throughout their lives. Students should also cultivate good character, be able to distinguish right from wrong, know how to be grateful, be willing to give, be indifferent to fame and fortune, and care for others. He said it is necessary to learn useful skills, cultivate a rigorous style of study, and lay a solid professional foundation as well as maintain exercise.

Mr Yao pointed out that Zhuhai has a vital position in the national and provincial strategic layout. He explains how Zhuhai shoulders a special mission, and it’s a place that is suitable for business and travel, as well as accelerating the development of a critical gateway hub in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Yao Yisheng hoped that UIC will meet the actual needs of the GBA and the accelerated development of the Zhuhai Special Economic Zone. UIC plays to its advantages, develops artificial intelligence, biomedicine and new energy, and strengthens international exchanges and cooperation. Yao Yisheng encouraged the students to learn more about Zhuhai, to love Zhuhai, to take root in Zhuhai, and regard Zhuhai as the first place to realise their life dreams and grow together with the special economic zone to achieve a remarkable life.
