UIC students achieve awards and prizes in summer competitions

During this summer vacation, UIC students received honours in several national and provincial competitions.


Academy Award of Advertising Arts Festival of the Chinese College Students

The award ceremony of the Academy Award of Advertising Arts Festival of the Chinese College Students for the 2021 spring term was held online on 22 August. Students from UIC's Public Relations and Advertising (PRA) Programme won a Gold Award for Advertising Slogan, a Gold Award for Short Video, a Bronze Award for Marketing Planning, and several Excellence Awards. Many of the others were selected as finalists. More than 70 PRA students won awards this year, setting a record.

Tao Yi, a fourth-year PRA student, won the gold award for Advertising Slogan for a toothpaste brand. She was also the Finalist for Advertising Slogan for a Cocktail brand.

A team of PRA students Chen Lingxu, Lin Haitong, Ren Yiyao, Zhang Yixuan, and Chen Chang won another Gold Award for their short video for a beverage brand.

PRA Programme Director Dr Xu Xiaying, Assistant Professors Dr Renata Paulina Wojtczak and Ms Hao Shuang were awarded the Excellent Supervisor Awards.

Interpreting Contests

Three students of the Applied Translation Studies (ATS) Programme shown excellent performance in the First National Translation, Interpreting and Speaking Contest organised by China Association for Translation, Interpreting and Cognition. Chen Xianping won the first prize in translation and the third prize in interpreting, while Xu Xinyi and Wang Qianhan won the second prize respectively in translation and interpreting.

Lin Meiting was the third prize winner in the 5th Puyi National Translation Contest for University Students.

A total of 36 students won awards in the 10th All China Interpreting Contest. Eight of them gained the opportunities to the semi-final to be held on 4 and 5 September.

The 8th China University Students PR Plan Contest

Results of the 8th China University Students PR Plan Contest, organised by the China International Public Relations Association (IPRA), were announced recently. Two teams of UIC students won the second and third prizes in the contest.


The University Students' 13th Dragon and Lion Dance Tournament

The UIC Dragon Lion Dance Team participated in the University Students' 13th Dragon and Lion Dance Tournament on 30 July, winning prizes in several categories. The group's total score was six, and the women group's total score was four. Both women's and men's teams won the second prize in the Chinese Southern Lion sections. In addition, WPEO Assistant Professor Ms Han Ying, who played the role of the UIC Dragon Lion Dance Team coach, received the Ten Excellent Instructor award.

Hosted by the Federation of University Sports of China, the competition is the highest level of dragon and lion dances for college and university students across the country, with nearly 1,100 athletes from 45 higher institutions.


2021 the 13th National Advertising Art Design Competition for College Students (Guangdong Province)

The 13th National Advertising Art Design Competition for College Students (Guangdong Province) came with a fine ending when students from UIC Cinema and Television (CTV) Programme got seven awards.

This is the largest national contest for college students in the field of advertising and arts. There were two groups from UIC that won the first prize. One of the groups includes Zhou Zitao, Chen Luyue, Liu Xiangran, and Feng Yingying. Xie Tengyi, Wang Tianze, Cui Chengyang, and Ding Yao were members of the other group.

In addition, there were two groups awarded the Second Prize, while another three student groups won the third prize. Associate Dean of the Division of Culture and Creativity, Dr Jiang Wei, received the Outstanding Instructor Award.


The 16th Guangdong University Students' Extracurricular Academic Scientific and Technological Project Competition

Two teams of UIC students respectively won the first and third prize in the 16th Guangdong University Students' Extracurricular Academic Scientific and Technological Project Competition.

Led by the Division of Business Management (DBM) Assistant Professors Dr Zhan Ge and Dr Weng Zhiquan, the team of eight DBM students from UIC, with one from Wuhan University, won the first prize. They won the category for science and technology invention and production. The team developed an evaluation system for predictions of earthquakes and other natural disasters. UIC's team members include Lin Haoqi, Zhang Wanlin, Zhang Kaixuan, Zheng Runda, Hao Ruobing, Sun Zening, Zeng Zishu, and Huang Weining.

The Division of Humanities and Social Sciences (DHSS) team won the third prize of social survey reports and academic papers in the philosophy and social sciences. Instructed by Assistant Professor in Media and Communication Studies Dr Li Yiwei, the team consists of Nie Liang, Li Tao, and Wang Yushan, juniors from the Media and Communication Studies Programme; and Jiang Wenxin and Tan Yuhang, who are International Journalism (IJ) seniors.


China College Students' 'Internet+' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition

China College Students' 'Internet+' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was held on 11 August. UIC students won the Silver and Bronze Awards. Nearly 200 UIC students divided into 31 groups participated in the competitions. Three projects advanced to the provincial finals.

Guangdong University Students Computer Design Competition

UIC's Science and Technology students achieved good results in Guangdong University Students Computer Design Competition. Two teams won the second prize, and four teams got the third prize. The provincial competition was held online in June 2021, with the aim of the cultivation of innovative, compound, and applied talents.

Guangdong Exhibition of Outstanding Artworks of Universities

According to the award announcement by Guangdong Provincial Education Bureau, UIC students achieved outstanding results in the Guangdong Exhibition of Outstanding Artworks of Universities. They won eight categories of prizes in total, including the first prize in photography and the second and third prizes in calligraphy, shadow play, instrumental music performance, and dance performance.

2021 Shared Opened Data Innovation Contest (SODiC) (Zhuhai)

Guided by the Guangdong government, the 2021 SODiC Competition in Zhuhai ended on 16 July. During the fierce competition, a student team and a teacher team from UIC both received awards.

The student team, guided by Assistant Professor of Division of Culture and Creativity (DCC), Dr Wang Xi, won the Second Prize in the Hengqin competition. The team researched the current tourism situation and solutions of Chimelong in Hengqin. The innovative, extensive data analysis methods got affirmation from experts and scholars.

UIC teachers also participated in this competition as a team. Members included DBM Dean Prof Liu Wenbin, Assistant Professor Dr Zhan Ge, Liu Luyang and Zhu Fuyuan from UIC-WingChain Blockchain Research Centre, and Zheng Yi from the University of Science and Technology of China. Their project focused on helping the government build a new system to strengthen its management and public service capacity. As a result, the team won the Honourable Mention.
