UIC held a blockchain seminar where experts and scholars discussed the development and application of blockchain technology and innovation breakthroughs on 21 December.
Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of UIC, Prof Tang Tao, welcomed experts and scholars from Beijing, Shandong, Macao, Zhuhai and other places. He said that UIC has a strong interest in blockchain technology development, hoping that this seminar could bring together insightful ideas.

Prof Chen Zhong of the School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science of Peking University (PKU) and director of the PKU's Blockchain Research Centre, and Dr Tan Jian, Founder and CEO of Aletheia Information Technology, were the keynote speakers. Both of them talked about the development and significant issues of blockchain technology.

Prof Chen Zhong
Prof Chen Zhong introduced the development and innovation direction of blockchain technology from the concept, policy interpretation, application scenarios and future development directions of blockchain, and focused on applying blockchain technology in finance, poverty alleviation, the application of public welfare and other regulatory fields. He said that the next decade would be a period of the significant development of the blockchain. In addition to going online and to the cloud, it will also be on the chain. Facing the opportunities and challenges in the future, we need to be aware of changes ahead of time, respond actively and seek changes.
Dr Tan Jian shared innovative attempts to integrate blockchain applications. Dr Tan Jian believes that blockchain technology is a technology that builds the infrastructure of integrity in an environment that lacks a foundation of trust. He introduced blockchain technology in the entity economy, digital economy, people's livelihood, smart cities, government services and other fields. He pointed out that blockchain technology requires breakthroughs in performance, security, availability and scalability.

During the discussion session, President Tang and the guests discussed the application of blockchain. Experts put forward suggestions on the innovative development of blockchain in Zhuhai. Dr Tan Jian proposed the idea of building a new type of industrial park relying on universities. He mentioned that UIC's financial technology resources could be combined with Hengqin's development to contribute to Zhuhai's blockchain construction.
To contribute to scientific research, product application and talent cultivation in blockchain, UIC has established the UIC Zhuhai Blockchain Technology Research Centre together with WingChain, a technological leader in the blockchain field. It will research developing the blockchain's underlying technology, the application ecology and mechanism of the blockchain, the region-based technology, etc.
